COVID-19 ANNOUNCMENTS

image45

March 13, 2020

Dear clients & families,

We understand the current national and community concerns about COVID-19 (coronavirus) and would like to address this issue formally. Please know that here at Ignite Midwifery & Wellness we take the issue of your health and well-being seriously.  We do not want to live in fear or cause undue fear in our clients, however history tells us that it is better to be over-cautious in these situations. (Prepare for the worst and pray for the best!)

The specifics about the virus and the potential affects for pregnancy and newborns is still unknown however it currently appears that this is generally the lower risk category for serious complications due to the virus. That being said, we should still take precautions to help prevent the spread of the illness to those around us, especially our older or immune compromised friends and family.

The other good news is that in the tests currently available to us it does not appear that COVID-19 is transmittable through the placenta or breastmilk and separating infants from their mothers after birth should not be necessary.

What we all should do:

~ WASH your hands

~Avoid touching your face

~ Avoid large gatherings

~Stay home if you experience any COVID-19 symptoms (fever, dry cough, chest pain, difficulty breathing)

~ BOOST your immune system. REST, EAT well, drink WATER, get OUTSIDE, take your VITAMINS.

(Vit D, Vit C,  Oscillococcinum,  Zinc, Fish Oil)

What we ask our clients in regards to your appointments and care:

Please attend your visits as scheduled  unless you have any of the COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to someone with with symptoms or diagnosis.

If you or anyone in your home has symptoms, please call the midwife for further instructions, do NOT come to the clinic.

Please leave your children home for now. As much as we love seeing all of you, children have been found to be asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 and we also know their hygiene is not ideal. If you must bring your children with, please call ahead so that we can make arrangements to accommodate you while minimizing risks to your family or others.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of a remote visit or  extending your regular visit further out please call or email us and we will evaluate that on a case-by-case basis.

Have conversations with your birth team (doulas, birth photographers, family, friends) about the need to skip the birth if they or those close to them have any symptoms. This also applies for the postpartum period, there will be plenty of time for visiting and baby snuggles once all of this has passed! For now, phone calls, photos and video calls may have to suffice.

What we are doing:

We avoid close contact with each other and clients,  we need to skip our usual hugs and handshakes

We will also attempt to stay out of your personal bubble as much as possible during your visit (we know this is not entirely possible due to the need to obtain vital signs, measure and listed to baby, ect).

We will stagger visits so that clients can be roomed without waiting in the waiting areas together

We are sanitizing all equipment and rooms in between each client

We removed all toys as these are difficult to clean repetitively

Sick staff will not report to work, this may mean that appointments get rescheduled and we will check in via phone

Remember:

The best ways to stay healthy are to avoid the virus and practice good hygiene!

Having your baby at home already greatly minimizes your risks.

For healthy, low-risk people who were planning hospital births who would now like to stay out of the hospital system if possible, this would be a great time to consider home birth or a birth center birth.

For those interested in this option due to the COVID-19 we will make every attempt to accommodate you however planning is key. We are expecting our limited spots left to fill quickly so if you are interested in scheduling a complimentary consultation please call or email us.

Wishing you all good health and beautiful births!

Blessings,

Midwife Kris

What We Do

Pregnancy Health

Prenatal visits are encouraged during the developmental stages of your baby. We take the time to address your physical and emotional needs to ensure that your prenatal experience is one that you'll enjoy. Services during your visit can include urine assessments, blood pressure testing, nutritional counseling, and fetal heart measurements.

Labor and Birth

We currently offer birth services in the comfort of your own home. We suggest that you contact us as soon as you've gone into labor. There you will experience the freedom to move around as needed, eat what you'd like when you'd like, and relax in whatever way feels good for your body. The combination of support and comfort from your family and our team  is beneficial in facilitating your birth.

Postpartum and Newborn Care

To ensure that you receive the best possible care for you and your newborn baby, our team will stay in close contact with you after your birth to provide support, physical exams, assist with breastfeeding, and answer any questions you may have. All of these services can be provided to you in the comfort of your home within the first week of birth. We also see both you and your baby  back at the clinic at 2 & 6 weeks  Our goal is to stay connected with you for a healthy development and we are here for you every step of the way!
